RETURN FROM TRENTHAM
SUCCESS OF'HAWERA HORSES.
(By
“Limited.”)
The Hawera horses Fersen, Lowenberg, Notium, Gay Chief and Brilliancy returned from Trentham on Tuesday. With a win, two seconds and a third the Hawera horses well paid expenses by collecting £360 in stake money. Fersen was narrowly beaten in the Wellington Handicap on Saturday, and on Monday seemed certain to gain place money in the Pearce Handicap halfway down the straight but just missed on the post. Lowenberg’s performance was excellent, his success being due to stamina and determination. He was one of the last away and fifth into the straight, finishing to win well. Notium went under by a short margin in the Wellesley Stakes to Pelmet, with Gay Chief only a head away third Brilliancy gave a very creditable showing in his race for a first attempt. Notium was hampered by his weight and track conditions on Monday. Lowenberg and Fersen are to go to Riccarton for the New Zealand Cup meeting at the beginning of next week. Gay’ Chief is to race at the Waikato meeting and remain in the north for the Takapuna fixture, if present intentions are adhered to.
Aga Khan has been nominated for the distance events at the Waikato Racing Club’s meeting.
