SUCCESSFUL MATIERE DANCE.
RETURNED SOLDIERS’ EVENT.
A successful dance was organised in the Matiere hall on Labour Day night by the Matiere branch of the Returned Soldiers’ Association. An energetic committee ynder the leadership of Mr. T. Kelly, president, and Mr. C. Barry, secretary, was responsible for an enjoyable time for the large number present. A
women’s committee was in charge of supper arrangements. Music for the dancing was played by McMinn’s Melody Boys from Taumarunui while Mrs. R. Owen and Mr. ‘A. Margan played extras. Mr. J. Crozier was master of ceremonies, A Monte Carlo walfz was won by Miss J. C. Fauchelle and Mr. H. Fauchelle, while a statue log cabin was won by Miss I. Hill and Mr. W. Baker. A competition held by the returned soldiers in aid of their cemetery plot was decided, Mr. J. McGovern being the winner.
