OPUNAKE JUBILEE FAIR
SOCIAL EVENING AND DANCE. The Opunake Presbyterian jubilee fair was held in the town hall on Tuesday afternoon and evening The weather was bad and under the circumstances very good business was reported. Because of the absence of the Rev. G. Wood on account of sickness Mr. J. S. Tosland was chairman at the social evening and thanked" the'ladies’ guild for the organisation. In the evening a concert programme was given. ~ The choir items were especially well rendered. Following was the programme arranged by Mr. W. D. Richards, who also played the accompaniments: Instrumental trio, Mrs. T. N. Watt (violin), Mr. C. Humphries (cornet), Mr. W. D. Richards (piano); choir and others, “Heigho Come to the Fair’.’ and “Water-lilies”; solo, Miss Farquhar; musical monologue, “Arab’s Farewell,” Mrs. J. Morris; solo, Mrs. Weatherhead; duet, Mesdames Trotter and Weatherhead.
The combined guilds were associated In the following stalls: Awatuna stall, Mrs. McCarrison, Misses Templeton and Farquhar; tea-rooms, Mesdames C. Clare, Weatherhead, J. Byars, E. J. Wallis and Malcolm;, sewing, Mesdames T. N. Watt, R. Ritchie and A. Lambie; sweets, Mrs. J. Morris, Mrs. D. Trotter and Mrs. H. C. Mann; cake, Mrs. W. Sharpe and Miss June Campbell; produce, Mesdames G. C. Clouston, A. Lusk and R. Malcolm; Pihama stall, Mesdames A. Allen, Holmes, Wilkinson, Cathie, Fischer and J. S. Tosland.
Competitions were won by the following: Weight of cake, Mrs. G. Hammond;, turkey, Mrs. Petty. * Lodge Installations.
The district deputy grand master, Bro. C. R. Switzer, and suite installed -the following officers in the Star of Opunake and Naumai Rebeka lodges at a combined meeting of the lodges on Monday night: Past Grands, Bro. N. F. Crofskey and Sister K. Julian; N.G.’s, Bro. C. Fischer and Sister A. Clarke; V.G.’s, Bro. A. Richards and Sister Baylis; secretaries, Bro. J. Clouston and Sister Divan; recording secretaries, Bro. S. M. Smith and Sister F. Crofskey; treasurer, Bro. L. Brown and Sister N. McNae; wardens, Bro. J. Chisholm and Sister Mitchell; conductors, Bro. B. Hickey and Sister Hickey; chaplains, Bro. W. Haggett and Sister N. Smith.
