SEAMEN’S DISPUTE
TROUBLE THREATENS AORANGI.
SHIP COMPLETES OVERHAUL.
By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright Rec. 11 p.m. Sydney, Oct. 29. Repetition of the trouble experienced in manning the Niagara now threatens the Aorangi, which is completing overhaul at Sydney. She is due to sail for Vancouver on November 7.
The Sydney branch of the Seainen’s Union to-day held a meeting and discussed the Niagara’s recent departure with a volunteer crew and then determined a course of action with regard. to the Aorangi. It is unofficially stated that the men intend to insist on the same guarantees as in the case of the Niagara. They will also demand the dismissal of the volunteer crew when the Niagara returns.
It is understood the Union Steam Ship Company and representatives of the Seamen’s Union have opened negotiations which it is hoped will end the whole dispute.
