M.C.C. TEAM ARRIVES
FIRST MATCH ON THURSDAY.
“CLUB” ATMOSPHERE WANTED. By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. Rec. 9 p.m. Perth, Oct. 29. The new Orient liner Orion arrived at Perth to-day with the M.C.C. cricketers who are to play in Australia and New Zealand. They will begin the first match in Australia against Western Australia on Thursday. ' The captain, E. R. Holmes, in an interview said they were looking forward to an enjoyable tour. He was anxious to see international tests played with a club cricket atmosphere. Such matches were often taken far too seriously, His team was experimental, said Holmes. The average age of the players was 26, and it included some players with excellent records, capable of bright, versatile cricket. Holmes described the South Africans as a well-balanced side. Cameron was the best wicketkeeper in the world. Mitchell was easily the best number one' batsman and Dalton was probably the hardest hitter. NEW LEG BEFORE RULE. AUSTRALIANS IN AFRICA. ~ Rec. 10 p.m. Sydney, Oct. 29. The secretary of the Australian Cricket Board of Control announces that the new leg before rule will not apply to the Australian team’s matches in South Africa.
