The Auckland Trotting Club’s spring meeting opened at Alexandra Park, Epsom, to-day in showery weather. The track was in good order and there was a fair attendance. The totalisator handled £15,404, a decrease of £677 from last year’s receipts. Waskasu came home first in the Waitemata Handicap to return a big dividend on the win machine. A slight change has been made in the order of the races, the .Hillsborough Handicap being the first race and the Green Lane Handicap the fifth. First day form should prove a useful guide but a few fresh horses in some of the races will give added interest. HILLSBORO’ HANDICAP, of £120; limit 5.0. Two miles: Worthy Nor - 12yds bhd, Autumn Lu 36yds bhd, Audo Patch, Young Rodney, Captain Bolt 48yds bhd. If the race has improved Worthy Nor she may take beating and Audo Patch will do a little better.. Young Rodney’s condition and stamina will give him fine, prospects and Captain Bolt threatens danger. The popular fancies may be; Audo Patch and Worthy Nor. NEWMARKET HANDICAP, of £100; • limit 3.5. Rose Marble, a stablemate of Waskasu and Elissa, reads well off the limit and , Pearl Parrish may go a little better.
