The Auckland Trotting Club’s spring meeting opened at Alexandra Park, Epsom, to-day in showery weather. The track was in good order and there was a fair attendance. The totalisator handled £15,404, a decrease of £677 from last year’s receipts. Waskasu came home first in the Waitemata Handicap to return a big dividend on the win machine. Logan’s Pride broke at the start, the early leaders being War Paint, Wee Machine and Bingen Chief, who were always in a good position. At the distance Smooger had a lead from War Paint, Nimbus, Bingen Chief and Logan’s Pride. A slight change has been made in the order of the races, the .Hillsborough Handicap being the first race and the Green Lane Handicap the fifth. First day form should prove a useful guide but a few fresh horses in some of the races will give added interest. HILLSBORO’ HANDICAP, of £120; limit 5.0. Two miles: Worthy Nor - 12yds bhd, Autumn Lu 36yds bhd, Audo Patch, Young Rodney, Captain Bolt 48yds bhd. If the race has improved Worthy Nor she may take beating and Audo Patch will do a little better.. Young Rodney’s condition and stamina will give him fine, prospects and Captain Bolt threatens danger. The popular fancies may be; Audo Patch and Worthy Nor. NEWMARKET HANDICAP, of £100; • limit 3.5. One mile and a quarter: Aerial Bell, Cherrill, Ranfurly Lass, Terraplane, Baron Alfonso, Great Jewel limit, Great Chum 24yds bhd, Proletarian 36yds bhd, Replica 48yds bhd. Aerial Bell’s good effort on Saturday suggests good prospects while Baron Alfonso created a good impression and may x do better. Ranfurly Lass is the dangerous newcomer. War Paint won so well the first day that she has good prospects of repeating the performance. Smooger and. Bonny Azure and King’s Play both won in fine style and should again be prominent. Argolis is a fresh one with good prospects while Ironside, Red Frontier, Rare Rey and Rayon D’Or are capable of sound efforts. A little, more luck than on Saturday will see Our McKinney hard to beat. The favourites may include: Our McKinney, Bonny Azure and Ironside. GREENLANE HANDICAP, of £100; r limit 3.49.- One mile and a half: Elissa, Stalky, Trilindo, Rose Marble,. Nelspear, Pearl Parrish limit, Charteris Bay 36yds btd, Autumn Lu 84yds bhd, Captain Bolt, Young Rodney 96yds bhd. Rose Marble, a stablemate of Waskasu and Elissa, reads well off the limit and , Pearl Parrish may go a little better. Stalky and Nelspear may show an improvement and Captain Bolt and Young Rodney are not without chances. The best supported may be: Rose Marble, Elissa and Pearl Parrish. CAMPBELL HANDICAP, of £130; limit 4.46. Two miles: Rare Rey, Luminate, Bonnie Direct limit, Kewpie’s Bond 12yds bhd, Blandford, War Officer 24yds bhd, Gold Dredge, Silver Watch, Guid Hairst 36yds bhd, King’s Warrior 96yds bhd.• After her good form at Hamilton Gold Dredge will take beating while Silver Watch’s form the first day suggests possibilities. Kewpie’s Bond is very consistent and Bonnie Direct and Blandford should go well. King’s Warrior is highclass but has a big task. Tire preference may be for Gold Dredge, Silver Watch and Kewpie’s Bond. ~ REMUERA HANDICAP, of £170; limit 2.48. With a good get away Ringtrue will be difficult to head off while Herod and Edna Worthy should be improved. Superex is in great heart and Manoeuvre is racing solidly. War Paint and Travis make a good bracket while Wee Machine, Smooger and Bingen Chief have reasonable prospects. Investors may prefer: Ringtrue, Supertax and Travis.
