A feature of the first day’s play was Fleetwood-Smith’s bowling. Western Australia in the first innings made 114, Lovelock 28, Gardiner 20. Fleetwood-Smith took four for 24, O’Reilly three for 37 and McCormick three for 29. Australia lost none for 104, Fingleton not out 47, Brown not out 55.
