REFRESHER AND HEADMISTRESS.

GOOD SEVEN FURLONGS - GALLOP.

Though many of the candidates for Waverley were restricted to pace work there were several interesting trials at New Plymouth on Saturday morning. H. Dulieu’s team, Gold Mission, Sporting Song, Nugget and Red Sand, all did steady pace work on the inside grass. They are in good order for their engagements. Mustang, who struck a foreleg during the week, was not worked. He is a doubtful starter to-day. After the breakfast interval the first to go were Tahurangi and Golden Rill. Moving very freely Tahurangi beat his companion by three lengths over five .

furlongs in Im 4 4-ss. He carried out his task in good style. There is some doubt whether Golden Rill will be taken to Waverley.

The best gallop of the morning wasthat of Refresher and Headmistress, who covered seven furlongs in Im 31s. They ran the first three in 375, the. half-mile in 504 s and the five in Im 3 4-ss. It was a splendid effort on the part of both. Despite the fact that she has not raced for some time Headmistress should perform. creditably to-day. Silk Sox, carrying a good weight, moved freely over seven furlongs in Im 33 2-ss. This was a solid effort and he finished very well. Red Fox was just in front of Bonny Glow at the conclusion of five furlongs in lm 545. Bonny Glow did not handle the bends comfortably but was moving well at the end. After a slow first furlong Lady Kyra ran six furlongs in good style in lm 18Js, the last half-mile occupying 525. She appeared to have something in reserve at the finish. So far no rider has been engaged for her to-day.
