WAIKATO TROTTING

SOME SMALL FIELDS SILVER WATCH IN GOOD FORM. FINE PACERS IN SADDLE HEAT. (Special to the Daily News.) After a lull of six weeks in the Auckland trotting sport there will be a revival of interest for the next three weeks, when meetings will be held at Hamilton, Epsom and Thames. The circuit will open to-day with the first, day of the Waikato club’s meeting. While the fields in some instances are small, this will not lessen interest in the racing or make the task of solving the various problems any easier. A special feature of the programme is the Tamahere Handicap. While it is the main race of the day it has been set at a 4.46 limit, to encourage intermediate pacers to race at two miles. Eight horses have accepted, and while all have performed particularly well in their class of middle distances,' the only one with a placed two miles performance is Eliminate, who ran third at Te Aroha. His subsequent form was not impressive, but he is working well again and only requires to strike his best form to race well. Bonnie Direct had a two miles race at Wanganui and but for a mishap to her sulky three furlongs from home she would have been placed. At their best Rare Rey and Kewpie’s King should stay as they have won at a recent five furlongs. Gold Dredge is a smart mare who stays well in her races. Silver Watch, bred on both sides to stay, looks exceedingly well placed and may run prominently. Lady Fame is very useful, while King’s Warrior has shown excellent form and may be dangerous. Public fancies may be SILVER WATCH. KING’S WARRIOR. GOLD DREDGE. The corresponding sprint race is the Ruakura Handicap, in which Silver Watch is again well placed on the limit, but if he succeeds earlier he may not be produced again. Transworthy is a very smart sprinter, while Peter Junior is a great beginner who may go very well. Rare Rey and Red Hope are a useful pair. Lack of racing may be against War Officer. If Silver Watch is absent the order af favouritism may be PETER JUNIOR. TRANSWORTHY. Better class horses have their chance in the 2.48 Te Kowhai Handicap. Ringtrue, off the front, will be given his chance of retrieving his defeat at Auckland. If ready Travis should keep him busy, while Logan’s . Pride has been showing signs of returning form. Nelson de Oro, Our Peter and Lady Coronado have chances, but most support may be for RINGTRUE. TRAVIS. LOGAN’S PRIDE. Good novices who have gained placemoney and should race well in the Trial Handicap include Nellota, Proletarian and Ranfurly Lass, while others on the front with prospects are Roma Girl, Grey Mist and Television. Guy Zolock and Derby Fame have each won a race, but investors may prefer NELLOTA. RANFURLY LASS. PROLETARIAN. Nelson's Glory is the only proved trotter of the limit lot in the Newstead Handicap, though there may be a surprise packet among the other three. Captain Bolt is a solid horse and should account for Autumn Lou. The favourites may be NELSON’S GLORY. CAPTAIN BOLT. Of the four in the Claudelands Handicap Parochial won well at Auckland and King’s Play was twice second. Bonnie Azure and Kewpie’s Crest each, won a race last season and Bonnie Azure may show improvement. In an open pool the betting may favour BONNIE AZURE. Last but by no means least is the Visitors’ Handicap in saddle, the field including Our McKinney, Tryment and Nelson Luvan, who ran first, second and fourth in a similar race at Auckland. General Sarsfield should go very well and may surprise, while King’s Guide and Parochial are a smart pair. Grey Mist is improving. Investors may follow Epsom form and support NELSON LUVAN. TRYMENT OUR McKINNEY. TROTTING HANDICAPS LABOUR DAY AT AWAPUNI. The following handicaps for the spring meeting of the Manawatu Trotting Club at Awapuni on Labour Day have been declared by Mr. A.
