PROGRESS IN TOURNAMENT. EASTERN AND SOUTH OTAGO. By Telegraph—Press Association.. Gisborne, Last Night. Sectional play m the New Zealand women’s hockey championships concluded to-day in fine weather. Both Eastern and South Otago won comfortably today and so will meet in the final tomorrow, the winner taking the K cup and the loser the Floyd Shield. The runners-up in each section, Southland and Ruahine, will also meet to-morrow in a contest for the Annie Holden Cup. The final positions in regard to sectional play were:— A section: Eastern 12, Southland 10, Poverty Bay A 6, Canterbury 6, Auckland 6, Marlborough 1, Bush 1. B Section: South Otago 11, Ruahine and Akitio 7, Ashburton 7, Wellington 7, Poverty Bay B 2, Wairarapa 0. A feature of to-day’s play was the fact that Eastern for the first time in the tournament had a goal scored against it, thus giving the team the record of 25 goals for and one against. The results were.— A Section: Eastern 5 beat Auckland 1, Southland 5 beat Canterbury 4, Poverty Bay A 2 beat Marlborough 0. B section: South Otago 4 beat Wairarap'a 0, Wellington 1 beat Akitio 0, Ruahine 3 beat Poverty Bay B 0.
