WELCOME APPRECIATED GOODWILL TOUR RESULT DIRECT SHIPPING NEEDED REQUEST FROM DOMINION By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright Rec. 10 p.m. Tokio, Sept. 6. The Japanese Foreign Office spokesman to-day announced that the Japanese Government greatly appreciated the warm welcome New Zealand had extended to Mr. K. Debucbi and his goodwill mission. It appreciates particularly the entertainments given by Viscount Galway, the Rt. Hon. G. W. Forbes and Sir Alexander Young and other functions in the various cities. Viscount Galway’s reference to Mr. Debuchi’s visit in his Speech from the Throne at the opening of Parliament also was much appreciated. Mr. Hirota', Foreign Minister, cabling to Mr. Forbes, said: “Allow me to tender heartfelt thanks for the cordial reception accorded Mr. Debuchi in your country.” The Foreign Office spokesman said New Zealand expressed the desire that the Osaka Shosen Kaisha should extend a direct shipping service to New Zealand. Regarding Now Zealand’s request for a direct service, Osaka Shosen officials at Tokio expressed doubt of the feasibility of expanding present cargoes to New Zealand to a passenger service. They said it would be better to approach the Nippon Yusen or Eastern Australian service. However, the matter was for the head office at Osaka. The officials added that Japanese business with Australia was excellent and they were sorry now that they did not include passenger accommodation when building the new ships at present used.
