It is spring of the year, and every modern woman is all agog to know what is new, arid smart and different. These are the days- when milady of fashion Poes in and out and round about, seekmg the answer to fashionable, queries. The following column is news from the various stores at New Plymouth and should prove of great interest to all seeking dainty wearing apparel for the spring and summer months. * * * * , Are you worrying because you haven t a sewing machine to make up of dainty little frocks for the. Spring? Then you simply must pay a visit to Service Sewing Machine Company’s showrooms, Currie Street,-just opposite Bamforths, where you will find a fine selection of machines awaiting your inspection. This firm does not sell ordinary second-hand machines, but reconditioned ones which carry a written guarantee. This entirely safeguards the buyer, and ensures you a quality machine at an extremely low price. This season we are to be tailored front the crowns of our heads to the tips of our toes; tailored millinery, tailored suits, and last but not least, tailored shoes. Brackstones have just opened a new shipment of spring; shoes; shoes that are different, smarter, more individual, are the Walkaway models which this firrn, are displaying; pretty little -styles m suede with glace trim, fashionable heel and low cut vamp; plain glace in black, brown, or that delightful new shade of navy which would look so smart with an ensemble of navy and white. As with all Brackstones shoes, the price is low, and the style and quality: thb best possible. Something really new is the moire suede shoe, which tljis firm are showing. These are also obtainable in women’s., and small womens sizes. The all-white frock for tennis and sports wear will be in favour, again, and George and--Doughty are displaying numerous pretty styles in pure Bemberg boiling silk, which are very reasonably priced at 9s lid.' # ft . # *

Artists and manufacturers have collaborated, this season to make the materials for spring and summer prettier :and more seiwiceable than ever. Prints galore, floral patterns, lively dots in various sizes, gay, floral motifs suggestive of a spring day, are all available in the American Seersucker material which C. C. Ward ' Ltd, is' .displaying.'. This material is cotton With a crimped weave and absolutely fast/to, suri'and wash. Wards have a wonderful selection of pure spun silks in checks; arid stripes in'the newest colourings; which are ideal for fashionable afternoon frocks of blouses. Imitation linens shown in flecked effects, are absolutely. tmcrushable and are . also fast colour. These will be extremely populai' this season. You should see these materials on the ground floor at C. C. Ward Ltd.’s.

Recenty someone living out of town wrote to me asking if I could , get them some playing cards and accessories for playing bridge. So I called at Corrigall s and found that they carry a wonderful selection of everything necessary for this popular winter game. They have cards in great variety, from the cheap pack for everyday ■ use to the all-linen card which will give endless service. Pencils and very attractive scorer's are- sold at the most reasonable prices. Their again, Corrigalls carry a fine stock, of card gamos which are sure to be appreciated in the evenings.
