PLUNKET CARN’VAL SOCIAL. To assist the carnival to raise £2O towards purchasing a car for the Plunket nurse a successful afternoon was held in the Awatuna hall on Wednesday, the hostesses being 'Mesdames Bourke, Kedgeley and S. Farquhar, junr. Songs were sung by Mrs. Scott and Misses Farquhar and Mary Alty and steel’guitar items were played by tyliss G. Hughes. . Miss Audrey Bourke and Miss Daisy Bridgman played a pianoforte • duet, which they played at the Hawera competitions, and Miss Pat Pepperell played pianoforte solos. Accompaniments were played by Sister Carbis and Mrs. Boyd. Competitions were won as follows:— Memory test, Miss Rita Farquhar; stepping on newspapers, Mrs. Bridgman; poisoned stick Miss Daisy Bridgman. There were eight entries for the baby show and by popular vote Baby Margaret Bourke was duly elected the Awatuna baby representative for the carnival. ■ . Sister Carbis, who has been nursing at Dunedin, is spending a holiday with her parents. Miss Rita Farquhar, of the Wellington dental clinic, is spending a holiday with her parents at Awatuna. Mrs. Charles Collins has returned to Awatuna and has settled in her new home. Miss Carmichael, who has been visiting Auckland, resumes her duties on Monday. Mr. and Mrs. Kedgeley have returned from New Plymouth, where they attended the Dormer—Tippins weding.
