SUPPLIERS’ SOCIAL

INNOVATION AT LEPPERTON. SUCCESSFUL GATHERING HELD. A spirit of friendly co-operation was evident last night, when suppliers of the Lepperton Co-operative Dairy Company and their wives and families assembled for an enjoyable social gathering, at which the officials of th<? company and members of the staff were the guests. The idea originated at the last annual meeting, when Mr. T, McWhirter stressed toe value of suppliers and their famines meeting socially to get to know one another better and tq show their appreciation of the good work done by the staff and officials of the company. Suppliers at the meeting supported toe suggestion and toe directors were authorised to arrange a social once a year and to invite all the employees as the guests of the suppliers. . The inaugural social last night was successful and enjoyable. The directors had organised the programme well with toe result that everything went off smoothly and the gathering was declared to be one of the best ever held at LepP Dancing was interspersed with musical items, and cards were played by nondancers. Messrs. H. E. Blyde and F.T. Crowe were masters of ceremonies. The music was provided by Rowe s orchestra, extras being played by Mrs. D. M. Peek and Mr. J. R- G. Sutherland. Musical items were: Violin solo, Mr. E. Hellier; songs, Messrs. A. Wright and W. Howlett; duet, Messrs. A. Wright and W. Howlett. Mr. J. R. G. Sutherland played toe accompaniments. Thanks were due to Mr. McWhirter for the happy inspiration that had led to the holding of this social evening, said Mr. P. A. Openshaw, chairman of directors, in extending a general welcome. He specially welcomed toe guests of honour, Mr. A. Dunlop, representing the firm of Sir Andrew Clement, Mr. E. W. Garner, the secretary, and Mr. A. Thomas, manager, and members of his staff, whose splendid work had resulted in Lepperton taking first place for butter and third for cheese among factories grading at Moturoa. Mr. Openshaw also welcomed Mr. W. Clark, toe carrier, and his staff. He read apologies for the absence of Mr, Thompson, manager of toe Bank of New Zealand, and Mr. Johns. He expressed special thanks tc Hie entertainers and to the women of the district who had attended to the supper arrangements. The supper tables were decorated with spring flowers. Though several sittings were necessary there was no delay. The committee responsible for the supper comprised Mesdames H. E. Blyde, E. Hellier sent., W. A. Cartwright, F. T. Crowe, R. Paul, Woisjn, C, B. Lepper, C. Cadman and Miss A. Wright. The children were specially catered for. In addition to supper they were provided with apples and bags of sweets, the gift of Messrs. P. A. Openshaw, A. Dunlop and Johns. The directors responsible for toe arrangements were Messrs. P. A- Openshaw. E. Hellier senr., W. N. Ackland, E. Old, H. Woisin, W. A. Cartwright and 11. E. Blyde.
