WELLINGTON DISPUTE SETTLED.

NATIONAL SPORTING CLUB CASE.

By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night.

Full settlement of the dispute between the National Sporting Club and the Police Department was announced in the Supreme Court to-day. The motion of the National Sporting Club for a writ of mandamus was dismissed by consent. “I am happy to state that Your Honour’s suggestion yesterday has made it possible for us to meet and arrive at a settlement in this platter,” said Mr, If, C. Spratt, counsel for the club, “The only term of settlement that I wish to mention in open court is that I as h leave to withdraw the motion. “We have had the benefit of frank discussion between the inspector, the Commissioner, the Solicitor-Gen"’-al and curselves and we are satisfied that whatever action was taken by the inspector or by the Commissioner was done with the sole eye to public order, however we may have viewed it.” The Chief Justice (Sir Michael Myers): I had no doubt of that. Mr. Spratt said the club felt in regard to future applications that it. could rely upon the proper exercise of discretionHi,s Honour: They will be dealt with on their merits. The Solicitor-General, Mr. Cornish, said the only interests of the police in th? matter was that of law and order. His Honour: I could see on reading the paper that there was a bona fide misunderstanding between the officers of the police and Mr. Spratt’s clients.
