FACTORY IMPROVED
ALTERATIONS AT NGAERE. An object of considerable interest at the Ngaere factory on Sunday morning, when the change-over from butter: to cheese was made, was the new pasteuriser and cooler which was used for the first time. This machine, of which there are very few in New Zealand as. yet, does the whole’ operation of pasteurising and cooling, putting through up to 5000 gallons per Hour, whereas formerly two pasteurisers could not cope with the milk at rush periods. The recent alterations made allowed for three receiving stages on the same platform, and, when these are in use, there should be practically no delay in the reception of milk. Pasteurising will finish with the last supplier’s milk, enabling vats to be set earlier, and, it is said, a still greater advantage is that a slightly .larger yield is obtained. The replacement of the old machines with the new one has contributed towards more floor space in the making room, allowing for two additional vats, making altogether 12, which should provide for all the milk offering for some time to come. Production is about on a level with that for the same time last year. It, however, the severe frosts and icy winds continue, it will almost certainly be down for September as compared with the same month last season. PROFESSIONAL BOXING. CONTESTS AT ELTHAM. Arrangements are complete for a 10round professional boxing contest between Frank Hutchins (Eltham) and Watty Robertson (Gisborne) to be held at Eltham next Monday. Since joining the professional ranks Hutchins has had i win, a loss and a draw His first fight against Fisher at Patea was a draw after the full 10 rouhds. His next fight was against Robertson at Gisborne, where the Taranaki boy was defeated. His third fight gave him a win against Twist Jaggers. Hutchins is confident he can beat Robertson in the return bout at Eltham. Watty Robertson has a great reputation both as an amateur and as a professional, and he is fit and confident of victory. The public therefore is assured of a first-class fight. It was intended to bring two Gisborne amateurs, Callaghan and Davy, but as both are title-holders they have ’to defend the titles at the Gisborne championships on September 10 and will be unable to make the trip. In their place A. Waugh, a featherweight, is coming and an endeavour is being made to obtain a welterweight to replace Davy. Waugh will meet C. Gordon, Patea. Other bouts are: J. Fitzwater (Patea) v. L. Pennington (Mangamingi), D. Batten (Opunake) v. A. Reid (Patea), J. Riley (Hawera) v. T. Freeman (Otakeho), J. Neustroski (Mangamingi) v. J. Coleman (Stratford), R. Willis (Patea) v. R. Marshall (Eltham), P. Schimanski (Ratapiko) v. Bob Penniall (Eltham). Mr. Ned Perry (Wellington) will referee.
