TURNING TO BUTTER
MANAWATU DAIRY FARMERS.
CHEESE FACTORIES HANDICAPPED.
By Telegraph—Press Association. Palmerston N., Sept 4.
The position in which small cheese manufacturing companies operating in the Manawatu district were finding themselves owing to the transfer of supplies to butter production was discussed by the annual meeting of the ManawatuWest Coast Dairy Factories’ Association. Fears were expressed that if their supply continued to dwindle some factories would be compelled to go into liquidation, with a conseauent increase in the volume of butter going to the English market.
Suggestions were made that some system of equalisation to bring the two sides of the industry into line should be evolved. It was pointed out that the trouble would be discussed at a meeting here next week with the Executive Commission of Agriculture and representatives of the Dairy Board. It was decided that factories be requested to submit the fullest information regarding the position to the commission next week.
