WOMEN’S GOLF IN COLD

TOURNAMENT AT HAWERA BOGEY MATCHES CONTESTED. PROGRESS. IN CHAMPIONSHIPS. •' In cold and windy weather the South Taranaki women’s golf tournament was continued on the Fairfield Links, Hawera, yesterday. The present holder of the senior championship, Miss J. Currie, Wanganui, who was unable to be present, telegraphed her good wishes. Miss Oliver Kay, who was also unable to compete in the championships owing to business reasons, competed in the four-ball bogey match yesterday. Partnered by Miss McLean, she tied for first place with Miss Graham and Mrs. Lewis. The two latter were adjudged the winners on the last l nine holes. Mr. W. Kay is officiating as starter. SEMI-FINAL TO BE DECIDED. By Telegraph—Press Association. Rotorua, Last Night. The semi-finals of the New Zealand golf veterans’ tournament will be decided to-morrow. The first and the second rounds were ■ played to-day. There is an exceptionally large number of entries for the tournament, the 80 players taking part representing 36 clubs. The course is playing well and although rain made conditions this afternoon somewhat difficult, it was not sufficiently heavy materially to affect the cards returned. Eight now remain in,-as follows; H. Horton (Middlemore), C. Kusabs (Ahipara), E. F. Snell, E. Wilson, E. M. Hutchison (Poverty Bay), L. K. Keys (Akarana), R. Rainger (Middlemore) and W. Maingay (Morrinsville). Kusabs and Maingay played particularly well to-day, while Horton won his morning and afternoon rounds in convincing fashion.
