VICTUALLERS AT DINNER. PRESENTATION OF TROPHIES. The golf tournament of the North Island Licensed Victuallers’ Association at New Plymouth concluded last night, when the competitors gathered at the Hotel Imperial for the annual dinner. The president, Mr. J. D. Power, was in charge. An enjoyable evening was spent with speech, story and song. “It has been a pleasure for us to have played on such a splendid course,” said Mr. T. E. James in proposing the toast of the New Plymouth Golf Club. They had all enjoyed themselves and were appreciative of the courtesies and hospitality that had been extended to them by the club officials and members. He made special reference to Mrs. Johns, He presented Mr. F. S. Johns, the club captain, with a silver cigarette case. In reply Mr. Johns said it had been a pleasure to have had them on the links. He congratulated them on the formation of their association and said he hoped it would develop and prosper. He paid a tribute to the work of the secretary, Mr. G. B. Menzies. Before calling upon Mr. E. R. C. Gilmour, Mayor of New Plymouth, to present the trophies Mr. Power briefly traced the history and development of the association. He announced that the association had now been properly constituted with an elective executive. He said that Mr. T. Coltman had been elected president for the ensuing year, and that a Wellington course would be the venue of the next tournament. Mr. Gilmour then presented the prizes. Mr. Power presented Mr. Gilmour with a cheque representing the proceeds from the putting competitions, and this was augmented by a cheque of £2 2s from Mr. D. H. Newbigin, Hastings. Mr. Coltman was installed as president with due pomp and ceremony. After he had taken "the oath” with its 14 points Mr. Power, the retiring president, placed the regalia of office upoh him. Mr. Coltman said he felt that the North Island Licensed Victuallers Golf Association had a great future. He had been impressed with the present tournament and was sure that it was going to unify the trade as it had never been unified before. Other toasts honoured were The King (the chairman), Donors of Trophies (Mr. A. N. Mathieson), The Taranaki-Egmont-Wanganui Hunt Clubs (Mr. Coltman— Mr. E. L. Humphries), The Press (Mr. Menzies), Mr. and Mrs. Power (Mr. Coltman). Mrs. Power was presented with a silver golf pencil and Mr. G. Graham with an illuminated address.
