BURNED TO DEATH
WOMAN’S TERRIBLE FATE. . TIN OF PETROL IN FLAMES. An inquest was held at Hobart lately regarding the death of Mrs. Augusta Henrietta Graham, of Taroona, near Hobart, who was burned to death when petrol which she was using to clean a garment became ignited. Her husband, William Montrose Graham, was in a private hospital in a critical condition. Mrs. Graham was cleaning a dress with petrol outside tjie house. The petrol, which was contained in a large tin, was suddenly ignited, and Mrs. Graham was immediately enveloped. Mr. Graham, who was working in the garden some distance away, rushed to her assistance, and his clothing caught fire. Leslie Chatterton, who resides in the locality, saw the flames, and was horrified to see Mrs. Graham rush to the fence, turn round, and fall to the ground. Mr, Chatterton did what he could for Mr. and Mrs. Graham, and, with the assistance of other neighbours, summoned the police and a doctor. Mrs. Graham’s clothing was destroyed by the flames, the only recognisable article remaining being her right shoe.
