Warm approval of the proposal to erect a memorial and a Maori meeting house at Waitara in honour cf the late Sir Maui Pomare was expressed by .the Minister of Native Affairs, the Rt. Hon. G. W- Forbes, and the Minister of Finance, the Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates, when replying to a deputation of Taranaki Taranaki Maoris at Lower Hutt to-day. Sir 'Apirana Ngata sale it was proposed to unveil the memorial in June next on the anniversary of the death of Sir Maui Pomare. A grant of £7OO toward the cost of the work was sought. It was estimated that the meeting house would cost £3500, of which it was hoped the Government would contribute £250 from the Consolidated Fund.
Mr. Coates said he would discuss the question with Sir Apirana Ngata and Mr. Taite te Tomo when the estimates were under consideration.
