WORK AT HATCHERY
BETTER WATER SUPPLY NEEDED. A necessity for a better supply of water at the hafchery controlled by the Taranaki Acclimatisation Society was stated to exist by the chairman, Mr. W. H. Moyes at a meeting of the society on Monday night. Mr. Moyes reported he had conferred with Mr. S. Judd, Inglewood, who had suggested a scheme whereby a better supply could be maintained. The scheme entailed the lowering of the race to the original level of the river, the construction of a groin and the erection of a flood gate. The hatchery was in . splendid order and the fish were looking particularly well, said Mr. Moyes. Soil about the hatchery was levelled and planted in flowers. The paths about the hatchery were metalled and. the boundary had been fenced. Twelve red gums given by the Wanganui Society had been planted. Two working bees had cleaned out the race and settling tanks. It was decided to discontinue the practice of issuing licenses through post offices and to operate through district agents only. The Wanganui Society wrote expressing its willingness to give trees of a honey-producing nature for planting at the hatchery. The society recorded its appreciation. Those present were Messrs. W. H. Moyes (chairman), G. F. Bertrand, A. Feakins, C. Rawlinson, A. Little, W. Jarvis and C. Butcher.
