KAPONGA PLUNKET WORK

FUNDS FOR NURSE’S CAR. A. decision to make a house-to-house canvass for funds towards the Kaponga branch share of the proposed car for the district Plunket nurse was readied at an executive meeting on Monday afternoon. The president, Mrs. A. V. Tait, presided. Mrs. Tait and Mrs. T. A. Bennie (secretary) reported upon the recent meeting of the Opunake centre, at which they represented the Kaponga subbranch, the meeting being specially called to deal with the question of obtaining a car for the Plunket nurse. The president said that the centre had decided to obtain a car and to divide the cost between the districts. Kaponga s share of the cost was fixed at £2O, and it was for Kaponga to decide how it was to be raised. Methodist anniversary services were conducted at Kaponga on Sunday. Service in the morning was taken by the Rev. H. Spencer and in the evening by Mr. Hailwood, Stratford. There < were large congregations at both services. At the evening service a solo was sung by Mr. Hook (Stratford) and a duet by Mr. and Mrs. Hook. Mrs. R. Pascoe played , the organ. Vital statistics at Kaponga for August were births 5, deaths 3, marriages 2. For August, 1934, tie figures were 2,2 and nil. INGLESIDE AT AUROA. A SUCCESSFUL GATHERING. The ingleside held in the A_uroa hall on Friday night was a success, there being a large attendance. The stage was decorated with flowers and greenery. Dance music was provided by Mrs. Attrill and Silver’s Sunbeams, with' extras by Miss Gwen Silver and Mr. S. Nuku. Mr. W. Marr, Kaponga, was master of ceremonies. Wilma Marr and Ella Guy were en- | cored for their Scottish dances, for | which the bagpipe accompaniments were I played by Mr. Mat. Langlands. Mr. R. Silver and Mr. Hugh Lambie, Manga- | toki, sang solos and Mr. W. Taylor, Ka- < nonga, gave several comic sketches. The accompaniments 'were played by Miss Gwen Silver.' The Presbyterian Church ladies’ guild at Awatuna-held its monthly meeting on Wednesday afternoon at the home of Mrs. H. Bailey, Mrs., G. Wood presiding over a good attendance. The secretary’s report disclosed a good credit balance from the concert held recently in the Awatuna hall, thanks being expressed to Hawera and Opunake performers. An undenominational Sunday school was to be opened by two girl members of the Bible class, it was reported.
