WOMEN’S HOCKEY
DOMINION CHAMPIONSHIPRESULTS FROM GISBORNE. By Telegraph—Press Association. Gisborne, Last Night. The New Zealand women’s hockey championships were continued to-day under very, adverse conditions. R^ in w in the early morning and continued wjth occasional intermissions of. a few minutes for the whole day. During the afternoon some very heavy showers fell. Three grounds are in use for the tournament, but on two of these water was lying. On several, occasions, the ball went into the water and showers of spray were sent up as the players struck vainly in an attempt to find the bail. Under such circumstances little combined play was shown on the two grounds and the players in these matches were not seen at their best form. Eastern Southland played Marlborough on the best ground and a fairly even game was witnessed, but Eastern always had the advantage of more experience and better combination. Ruahine met South Otago on the same ground, the southerners winning comfortably by four goals, holding the upper band throughout, mainly by more vigorous play and more accurate hitting. Results are:— A Section. Poverty Bay A beat Auckland by two goals, both scored by Miss Gemmell, to one shot by Mrs. Gawler. Eastern Southland beat Marlborough by one goal by M. White to nil. Southland beat Bush by three goals scored by Belsham, E. Bell and Mclntyre to nil. B Section. South Otago beat Ruahine by 4 goals, scored by G.
