Riverlea School Break-Up. At the breaking-up ceremony at the Riverlea school on Friday afternoon, recitations were given by Mavis Dew, Madpline Voullaire, Romano Harre and William Lavefi. Ernest Chapman gave an item on the mouth organ, and Shirley Flack played a piano solo. Nellie Harte presented Mr. Harre with a but-ton-hole. CHEVALIER AT HAWERA. “FOLIES BERGERE”. BEGINS TO-DAY. “Folies Bergere,” 20th. Century’s lavish musical extravaganza, starring Maurice Chevalier, begins at the Hawera Opera House to-day for 'a season of two nights and two matinees. Taking its settings and its mood' as well as its title from the internationally famous Parisian musical entertainment, “Folies Bergere” offers Chevalier his first dual role. He is seen both as his gay, strawhatted, singing self, and as as a bemoustached, be-mohocled French baron. Ann Sothern and Merle Oberon, making her Hollywood > debut, share feminine supporting honours, while the cast of this Daryl F. Zanuck production also includes Eric Blore, Ferdinand Munier, Walter Byron, Lumsden Hare, Robert Greig, Ferdinand Gottschalk, Halliwell Hobbes and others.

Roy Del Ruth directed the production from a screen play by Bess Meredyth and Hal Long. Dave Gould' staged the elaborate musical ensembles. Chevalier sings five new song bits, as well as a chorus of the memorable “Valentina.”
