MEMORIAL TO MR. H. E. CRESSEY.

Homer, in receiving on Thursday night the silver cup presented to the society by Mrs. Henry Cressey and Mrs. Cressey sen. in memory of Mr. Cressey. ; One of the first of Hawera’s citizens tu realise - the value of the work, Mr. Cressey was a member of the committee at the festival’s inception, said Mr. Homer, and was secretary for several years.; He was always an indefatigable worker and' it was largely due to his vision, energy and organising ability, that the work was so well established at Hawera in its earlier. days. The last of a series of basketball dances will be held in the Normanby town hall on Monday, September 9. Novelty dances and a -waltzing competition will be a feature of the evening. Vern. A fancy fair and concert, in aid of the Presbyterian Church, will .be held in the Okaiawa town hall on Tuesday, September 10. A programme has been arranged by the Hawera choir and . local talent, full particulars of which . are advertised. The Alton basketball dance will be held on Monday next, September 2. Vinsen’s Ambassadors’ Orchestra will provide the music. MYSTERY AND WESTERN FILMS. “Fog Over ’Frisco,” which will screen at the Grand Theatre, Eawera, to-night and Monday night, is a thrilling mystery drama, in which Lette Davis, as a beautiful wealthy society woman, is one of the leaders. Others in the cast include Lyle Talbot, Hugh Herbert, Arthur Byron, Robert Barrat, Henry O’Neill, Irving Pichel, Douglas Dumbrille and others.

The cast includes Martha Sleeper, Fred Kohler, Sleep'’n’ Eat, Louise Beavers, Russell Simpson and Maurice Black. “West of Pecos” will be presented at a matinee to-day and for two-night season at the Grand Theatre, Hawera.
