THIRD GAME WON

TARANAKI HOCKEY PLAYERS. . STRONG WOMEN’S TEAM BEATEN. The Taranaki women's hockey team yesterday defeated Akitio by one goal to nil. Akitio; on New Zealand tournament form, was the best North Island team last year, winning its section but losing to Marlborough in the semi-final after extra time had been played. Against Bush on Thursday Taranaki was slow to settle down in the first spell, Bush’ being decidedly &he better team. At times it did not seem possible that Taranaki would stand the strain of Bush’s terrific onslaughts but Taranaki’s defence .line was superb, H. Trass and E. West repeatedly saving their side, D. Wilcox, in the goal, made some brilliant saves. A. Clements was perhaps the most energetic player in the forward line and it was her tireless ..efforts that brought the decision in Taranaki’s favour. / G. King and B. Watkins played a hard game, but were frequently penalised for off-side and this spoilt several good chances of scoring.- L. Potts was outstanding in the half line. B. Watkins retired through an injury to her hand and N. Gopperth took place.
