TRAINING IN PHYSICAL CULTURE. MEN FROM DEPRESSED AREAS. * ‘ / British Official Wireless. Rec. 5.5 p.m. Rugby, Aug. 16. A number of unemployed men drawn, from specially depressed areas of northeast and north-west England, the Midlands, Scotland and South Wales have been undergoing a four months, course, of training at South London aS instructors in physical culture under an experimental scheme conducted with the approval and financial assistance of the Ministry of Labour. It is intended to employ the men when they are proficient as leaders at junior instructional centres and elsewhere. In addition to walking six miles each day between the hostel and gymnasium the men eketcise actively for five hours in thtoe sessions. Besides ordinary physical training the course includes boxing, jiu jitsu and gymnasium games. Twice a week the men attend lectures on anatomy, hygiene, physiology and elementary psychology. The med, whose ages range from 19 to 31, include unemployed miners, dockyard labourers, mechanics, draughtsmen, etc.
