Lamason made a very fine but unsuccessful attempt.to goal. ' The tempo of the game had quietened somewhat, the heavy ground teljing on the pace of the players. Nevertheless it was very open. Canterbury was attacking strenuously .and from a scrummage , five yards from the Wellington line McAuliffe whipped the ball out smartly, to Polson, who although lifted off his feet by Wright fell to the ground with the ball under him to open Canterbury’s account. It was a well-conceived and attractive effort McAuliffe goaled and th® spell ended almost immediately with the score Wellington 11, Canterbury 5. Play fluctuated at the beginning of the second spell. The visitors were attacking strenuously and from, a scrummage just outside the Wellington line the Canterbury backs got the "ball to .the wing.
