DR. DICKIE’S VISIT
SPECIAL WAVERLEY SERVICE. The Rev. Dr. Dickie, Moderator of the Presbyterian Church in New Zealand, paid a visit to Waverley on Thursday and conducted a special service in the evening at the Presbyterian Church. Following the service a social was held in St. Andrew’s Hall. The Rev. E, R. E. Ross introduced Dr. Dickie to the congregation. Those contributing items to the short programme were Mrs. Graves and Miss G. Beer (songs), and Mr. Currie (recitation). The accompanist was Miss Mathieson. Dr. Dickie was the guest of Mr. and Mrs. Ross.' PERSONAL ITEMS. The Rt. Rev. Prof. J. Dickie, M.A., D.D., Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of New Zealand, conducted the service at St. John’s Presbyterian Church, Hawera, yesterday moiming. The Hon. C. E. Macmillan, Minister of Agriculture, accompanied by his secretary, Mr. W. R. King, left Hawera by Saturday’s mail train for Wellington. Prior to his departure the Minister received a number of private deputations. Mr. A. C. Hannon, a member of the Hawera staff of Messrs. George and Doughty Ltd. for four years, has accepted a position as dress buyer with Roach’s Ltd., Hastings. WAITOTARA NEWS ITEMS. PERSONAL PARAGRAPHS. Mr. and Mrs. Sloan, Dunedin, were guests of Mrs. W. Hurley, Waitotara, for a few days recently. Mrs. Smith has returned to Wanganui after staying with her daughter, Mrs. A. Hurley, for a few days. Mr. H. Butterworth, of the Waitotara Post Office staff, has been notified of his transfer to Waverley. Miss D. Smith, Wanganui, is visiting her sister, Mrs. A. Hurley. School in Tournament. The Waftofara school was closed on Wednesday when the basketball and football teams went to Patea to take part in the tournament. ‘ LORNA DOONE” FINALLY. DOUBLE PROGRAMME AT GRAND.
