NGAERE SCHOOL GROUNDS
MEETING OF COMMITTEE HELD. The monthly meeting of the Ngaere school committee was held on Tuesday night, when there were present Messrs. J. H. Thomas (chairman), N. G. Rowe. J. D. Morison and J. T. Scott. Mr. G. C. Harre, head teacher, in his report drew attention to the unsatisfactory position of an outbuilding and to obviate a nuisance suggested that it be moved to another part of the grounds. The secretary was instructed to write to the Taranaki Education Board. It was also reported that a rowan tree planted at the jubilee was not thriving owing to the ravages of bronze beetle. It was decided to replace the tree in question with one more suitable, the chairman and secretary to make a selection after making inquiries. Requests that the committee pay for a new football and pay the entry fees for the Hawera competitions were acceded to. The matter of purchasing seeds and seedlings for children’s garden plots was left to Messrs. Thomas and Rowe. The children are to be instructed by Mr. Harre to prepare their plots immediately, as on the resumption of school after the term holidays a distribution will be made. It was decided to print a show schedule if the cost were not excessive. The chairman reported that dental clinic matters were satisfactory. The nurse was doing excellent work,- despite the fact that she was confronted with heavy arrears of work at the commencement of the year. Messrs. Thomas and Rowe were appointed delegates to the Central Taranaki School Committee's Association with power to vote as they thought fit in regard to the proposed rules. Mr. Scott reported that he had visited the board’s office and that the insuring of the school effects had been arranged.
