GOODS WRONGLY ESTIMATED. CABINETMAKER FINED £3O. By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, August 16. A fine of £3O was imposed to-day on Harold Charles Nason, cabinetmaker, for a breach of the Sales Tax Act. It wks stated that he was liable to a fine of £4OOO. The prosecutor said the Minister had discretionary power to grant, exemption to any applicant. whose. sales value of goods manufactured by him did not exceed £5OO. Nason applied and gave the value as £460, but the department found that the proper value exceeded £1455. For such an offence the Act provided for a maximum fine of £lOO or three times the value of the goods, whichever was the greater. Counsel for Nason said his books were in a deplorable .state. The Magistrate commented on the wide difference between £460 and £1455, and said that the muddled books did not affect the position
