BANDITS’ VICTIM

RIDDLED WITH BULLETS MR. GARETH JONES FOUND POLICE CHASE BANDITS RELEASE RUMOUR UNTRUE By Telegraph—Press Assn. —Copyright. Rec. 12.15 a.m. Peking, Aug.l6. The body of Gareth Jones, a former secretary of Mr. Lloyd George, was found to-day riddled with bullets. It was rumoured last week that the bandits who had made him prisoner had released him, but this was no more true than the story that he had escaped and was going to Mukden. It now appears that his captors transferred him to a second gang of bandits which Chinese troops pursued to-day. The soldiers found Jones’ body riddled with three bullets near Paochang where he was originally captured.
