It did not take Richard long to discover what was troubling Gwen. She was only too pleased to get someone-.in whom to confide. It appeared that she had broken the new wireless set. “I didn’t do anything to it,” she declared. "But you must have done something,” said Richard. “I only turned it on, and.'it didn't go, Gwen insisted, ’■Phew!” said Richard. "Now there will be trouble.

.Now the new wireless set had only been delivered a Wore and the instructions were that th< chums were not, on any account, to play with it. So, of course. Gwen’s news was very serious indeed. > “We shall have to do something,” said Richard. He ttSd all the knobs that could be turned, but not a sound came out of-it. “Gee! This is serious,” he said. . “Gracious, wMt are we MOing to do? cried Ted.

•’We cannot,” said Richard, after he had failed to make the wireless go, sit down and do nothing.' We’ve got to get it going before the master comes home. Poor Gwen looked mightily sorry for herself, because she couldn.t see how Richard could put it right. 1 ~ , ... “There’s a' book on wireless in the library,” said Richard. Til see what that can tell us. It’s do or die.” “Well,” said Gwen, “I hope I shall hot get the blame.’

Richard soon found, when he commenced to read up the book on wireless, that his task was far from an easy one. „ “I think something must be wrong with the H.F. choke, he saia, aftei studying diligently. “Row are we going to find that?” asked Gwen. “We shall have to take it to pieces,” said Richard. ‘‘But what about getting it together again?” asked Gwen. Just then Polly came into the room. ‘‘Hullo! Hullo!” she cried. “What’s all the trouble?”

The trouble had to be explained to Polly. “H.F. choke, indeed,” she chuckled, “there can’t be much wrong with it. L<et me look. Why,” she went on, “you haven’t plugged in to the electricity. How do you expect it to work without power?” “What!” cried Richard, ‘‘and I’ve taken all this trouble. How stupid you snapped Gwen; “I like that. You couldn’t make it go.” Gwen and Richard wrangled over it, of course. All the same they were very glad that the wireless was not broken. '
