GATES IN QUEENSLAND Rugby Union has come to stay in Queensland, says the Referee. The gate takings for the four matches played by the Maoris in the northern state totalled £1340. : In the opening match at Warwick the receipts were £75. The .first Brisbane match brought £550, and then the midweek match with. Toowoomba returned the splendid gate of £2lO. . ■ For the second match at the richly turfed Exhibition Oval the crowd came back almost as well. as for the first game, the takings being £503.
Several hockey enthusiasts anxious to correspond with Dhyan Chand, the famous Indian captain, were astounded and incredulous when they learnt that the address “Dhyan Chand, India” would _ be sufficient to find him- He is known throughout the length and breadth of the country.
