Northumberland, who made 199 in the first innings, in the second made 222 (Lee 64; Langton four for 44). South Africa replied with 102 for two wickets in second inning© (Mitchell 43) and won by eight wickets. In the English team -to play South Africa in the fourth test starting at Manchester on Saturday, A. H. Bakewell (Northamptonshire) replaces Mitchell, who is unfit.
