MENUHIN’S ATTITUDE TO MONEY. Yehudi Menuhin, the young violinist, recently refused an offer'of £los,ooo to appear in a HoUywood film depicting his life story. The letter to the Paramount Company, refusing the offer,’ signed by Yehudi’s father, said:— “IHiere is an abyss between Yehudi’s genius and the very commercial talent serving at Hollywood. There will .never be a common denominator between the art of Menuhin and the picture studio,, unless you evolve the pure music: of Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, and Schumann —not Gershwin and what is represents.” Yehudi stated that he was considering appearing in a series of pictures to be produced by a French international corporation, not having, a romantic background, but being. simply musical expositions that might ultimately . replace concert performances if the technique were perfected.
