Miss King was trained at the Cook Hospital, Gisborne, and is joining the staff of the Te Puke Hospital to complete her training in maternity work..

A large party of New Plymouth visitors and members of the New Plymouth Little Theatre Players motored to Stratford on Wednesday night to attend the drama festival. Among them were Mrs. H. Ashton, Mrs. R. Deare, Mrs. A. Diprose, Mrs. S. Fergusson, Mrs. J. H. Sheat, Miss B. Hadden, Miss Ann Brodie, Miss Helen Thompson, Miss Joan Deare, Miss Pat Bentley, Miss Ruth Gentles, Miss Amy Gentles and Miss Betty List.

Coming-of-Age Party. Miss Moira Clarke was entertained by her parents, Mr. and Mrs; J. Clarke, Otane, on Thursday at a dinner party at the Criterion Hotel, the occasion being the celebration of her 21st birthday. Miss Clarke, who is. on the nursing staff of the New Plymouth public hospital, wore a frock of black georgette trimmed with accordian pleating, and her shoulder spray of scarlet gerberas added a bright touch of colour. Mrs. Clarke, whoj welcomed the guests on arrival, wore a’ frock of nut brown lace with a matching velvet coatee. Flag Bridge Party. Mrs. H. C. Baker, Miss Godfrey and Miss Curtis arranged a successful flag bridge party ori Thursday afternoon in aid of St. Mary’s guild. There were 25 tables in play and the hall wherein the party was held was decorated with bowls of peony pink camellias, narcissi and golden jonquils. A cake competition was won by Mrs. M. Campbell and the bridge winners were Mrs,»T..G. Thomson, Mrs. C. E. Dinnis, Mrs. O. E. Flyger. Success at London. Miss Mary Crawshaw, New Plymouth, has made successful progress in musical studies abroad. She made her debut as a solo pianist at Queen’s Hall, London, on June 18, when she played “Todtentanz,” a paraphrase for pianoforte and orchestra, by Liszt. The occasion was an evening concert given wholly by students and professors of the Royal Academy of Music and the programme was largely instrumental music. Sit Henry J. Wood conducted the academy orchestra of- 130 players with Arnold Richardson at the grand organ. BELL BLOCK SOCIAL NEWS. ST. LUKE’S' GUILD MEETING. A meeting of .the members of St. Luke’s Ladies’ Guild was held at Bell Block on Thursday afternoon at “Bradley,” tee home of Mrs. F. Philpotts. There were 12 present, Mrs. J. H. Street presiding. Further arrangements were made for the Spring flower Show to be held next month. Cut-out articles were distributed among members to be made up for sale on the stall at the show. A competition for a dressed doll, “Red Riding Hood,” was decided, Mr. Rex Aitken being the winner with the name “Daphne.” Afternoon tea Was served by the hostess, Mrs. Philpotts, - Mrs. T. French has returned from Wellington.
