CATHOLICS ATTACKED
GENERAL GOERING’S CAMPAIGN. ALLEGED MISUSE OF AUTHORITY. By Telegraph—Press Assn— Copyright Berlin, July 18. Accusing a section of the Catholic clergy of systematic political opposition to Nazism, General Goering has' instructed the authorities to apply every legal means against the clergy misusing authority. He objects to Catholics using the greeting “Hail Heavenly Fuhrer," and he disapproves of Catholic youth associations with initials corresponding with those of Nazi organisations. The News-Chronicle’s Berlin correspondent says that the secret police have been instructed to listen to Catholic sermons, and priests guilty of anti-Nazi utterances will be sent to concentration camps. General Goering declares that scarcely a Sunday passes without mass being abused by reading political declarations. The Government will allow priests to cooperate in education only provided they unreservedly support Nazism.
