THIRD WAVERLEY WIN

EGMONT-WANGANUI HUNT ANNUAL POINT-TO-POINT. SPORT OF HIGH STANDARD. Favoured by perfect weather the Eg-mont-Wanganui Hunt Club’s annual point-to-point, which took place at Waverley on Saturday, proved most successful. There was a large attendance of the public and the standard of the sport was high.

The good hunter Flower Bag scored his third successive win in the Tally Ho Steeplechase and his fourth win in four ( years at the gathering. With the exception of one slight blunder, he fenced splendidly. He was soon in front but had to hold off a determined challenge from Ngareta over the final stages. Stilts scored well in the Heavyweight event, though had Dracula’s saddle not slipped the winner’s task might have been more difficult. The lightweight race was won by Sir Daniel, who scored in an attractive fashion.

The Ladies’ huntig event, which created considerable interest, was carried, off by the North Taranaki horse Nimblefoot, which, capably ridden by Miss Hazel Cole, gave a capital display. Both children’s race were won by Miss Margaret Alexander on Bonoloff.

At the presentation of trophies Dr. W. T. Simmons said that though the dub had considered the question of altering the venue of the event the majority had been against any change, as the present course was a splendid test and was also most suitable from the point of view of the spectators. He thanked the owners of the property and those who had put their farms at the service of the dub during the season. He said the dub had enjoyed a most successful season. He made special reference to the sporting action of the members of the Taranaki Hunt Club in bringing four horses to the gathering. Mr. A. H. Halcombe briefly ' replied. Results are:—

From a good start Coma and Flower Bag were the quickest to move, and Flower Bag, fencing in great style, jumped himself to the front and was well clear passing the post the first time from Coma, with Vienna, Nimblefoot and Ngareta following in that order. He had a life at the first road double and both horse and rider recovered splendidly. Over the hill Flower Bag continued to lead from Coma, with Vienna, Ngareta and Nimblefoot following. Ngareta and Nimblefoot made a forward move and they were about four lengths behind the leader at the second double. Ngareta moved up to Flower Bag, but he jumped away from her at the next fence. Ngareta, however, hung on splendidly and the pair fought out a desperate finish, Flower Bag winning by a length. Nimblefoot was six lengths away third and came Coma and Vienna.
