HAWERA BADMINTON
ELTHAM BEATEN IN CUP MATCH. Hawera badminton players beat Eltham at Eltham on Friday night by eight games yto four in the first round of the Spalding Cup competition. Many of the games were very well contested, and the issue was in doubt until the last two games.
Details are as follows, Hawera players being mentioned first: — Men’s singles: Kemp and Paterson beat Whiting and Gibson 21-4, Syme and Meuli lost to Townsend and'Ritter 14-21, Kemp and Paterson beat Townsend and Ritter 21-9, Syme and Meuli beat Whiting and Gibson 21-10.
Women’s singles: Misses Kemp and Buist lost to Misses Neilson and Townsend 19-24, Mrs. 'Allen and Miss Hurrell lost to Mrs. Gudopp and Miss V. Cameron 11-21, Mrs. Allen and Miss Hurrell lost to Misses Neilson and Townsend 6-21, Misses Kemp and Buist beat Mrs. Gudopp and Miss V. Cameron 21-9. Combined doubles: Kemp and Miss Buist beat Carter and Miss Fountaine 21-7, Paterson and Miss Kemp beat Williams and Miss S. Cameron 21-3, Meuli and Mrs. Allen beat Gover and Miss Fraser 21-6, Syme and Mrs. Hurrell beat Young and Miss Fake 21-5.
