UNWANTED BLONDES
CHANGE IN FILM FASHIONS. PRODUCERS REJECT TOWHEADS. Blondes no longer predominate in Hollywood. The colourless platinum hair, made famous by several stars, is definitely passing out of the movie picture. Gentlemen may still prefer them, but producers are picking girls with darker tresses. . This is startling news from Hollywood, which went blonde-crazy several years ago. Only a fourth of the 8000 girls on the list of the central casting office are now towheads. A year ago blondes were in the great majority. / . - There are two reasons, among others. One is the period pictures. There were no respectable “bleached blondes in the days of “Little Women,” and “David Copperfield.” Second, the natural-colour technicolour which is now photographing “Becky Sharp” gets nothing out of a platinum blonde head except to show its artificiality.
