LAWRENCE OF ARABIA
PROPOSED FILM OF LIFE. WHICH COMPANY TO MAKE IT? The question as to which film company will make the first life of Lawrence of Arabia is not yet settled (writes the film correspondent of the Observer), althougn the subject is under discussion in practically every major studio of England and America. One of the smaller companies, which owns certain stock news-shots of Lawrence’s career, has announced a picture on the subject, ‘ while it is well known that Alexander Korda owns the screen rights of “Revolt in the Desert.” Production of this latter was announced for this year, with colour mentioned as the medium, and Leslie Howard tentatively named in the leading role, but was postponed at Lawrence’s own request. The subject is now under consideration again, this time as a black ana white picture to be made on the actual location in the desert, but in the meantime certain American companies, in particular Fox, have become interested m the production of a Lawrence story. Since it is obvious that the unofficial Hollywood life, made quickly with probable locations in the Yuma Desert, would anticipate any picture that might be produced on this side, I should not be surprised to find Mr. Korda again abandoning the project and coming to some arrangement with Fox over the rights.
