FILMS AT NEW PLYMOUTH. In “Mandalay,” coming on Wednesday to the Regent Theatre, a Russian refugee is rescued from the Bolsheviks by an unscrupulous but fascinating soldier of fortune, who sells her into virtual slavery to a resort-keeper. Her flight and pursuit on a boat bound from Rangoon to Mandalay form the drama. '#.# * ' # “Mr. Skitch,” to come to the Regent Theatre on Saturday, loses all his money in the slump. He sets out to seek greener pastures with his family of Skitches. His luck turns when he pretends to be a bully and forces a man to give him a job.

“Devil Dogs of the Air,” a romance of the flying marines, will be screened today at the Grand Theatre, Hawera, and on Saturday, at the New Plymouth Opera House. It is packed with dare devil flying stunts. ft « * #

“pweet Adeline,” to be shown on Wednesday at the New Plymouth Opera House, is a musical ’ spectacle based on a clever operetta. Involving a romance set in the glamorous Broadway theatrical district it features unique dancing numbers, fine singing and excellent comic scenes.

The State Theatre, New Plymouth, has booked two full-length features, for Wednesday. “Phantom Light” is a comedy starring Gordon Harker. “Captain Hurricane,” a comedy-drama of Cape Cod folk, is a story of a captain who loved the sea, even though he tried to get away from it and live a sedate life on the land, where he never felt at home, so he could be accepted by the woman to whom he had been proposing for 20 years. 1 #. # # * ,

“George Whites’ 1935 Scandals,” will come on Saturday to the State Theatre, New Plymouth. It boasts haunting and peppy melodies, a rich stage extravaganza, a wealth of stars and beauties. The story concerns a producer who stumbles on home-grown talent in a small town, whisks them off to Broadway and Hollywood stardom
