BILLY BOYS’ WORKSHOP

A HOUSE FOR YOUR PUPPY. Hire is a comfortable little kennel which you can make with pieces of planed packing-case wood about half an inch thick. If made to the sizes given, it would be suitable for a puppy, but for a larger dog a kennel half as large again as the one’ illustrated could be made in the same way. , The front is made from two boards 18 inches long and six inches wide, sawn to the shape shown in diagram A. The two parts are nailed to a cross batten, B, and to a triangular piece, C, at the top. The back of the kennel is made in the same way, except that no opening need be cut out. Nail a crossbatten along the bottom of the two boards on the inside. Make the floor from six planks 12 inches long and . three inches wide, nailed

to two battens,- shown in the third diagram. The battens should be one and a half inches wide, five-eighths of an inch thick, and 15 inches long. To raise the floor from the ground two more battens, D, D, two inches by One inch and 15 inches long, are nailed underneath, as shown in the first diagram. Each side of the kennel consists of fou. boards three inches wide (or three boards four inches wide) sawn to a length of 18 inches. In fixing the parts together, first nail the two bottom side boards to the elges of the floor, thenplace the front and back parts in position and nail the lowest side pieces to them in turn. The front and back of the kennel are set back one inch from the edges of the sides. Nail on the other side planks in turn, and plane the edge of the top one to a bevel to correspond with the slope •of the roof. For each side of the roof four boards, each two and a half inches will be required. Saw the boards to a length of 20 inches, and nail them in place so that an equal amount projects at the front and back of the kennel. Give the finished kennel two coats of paint, and then cover the roof with a piece of tarred felt to keep the inside dry in wet weather. The Hut Carpenter. unit ini niii Innin IHH
