ALTON GUIDES’ BIRTHDAY
CELEBRATION BY THE TROOP. The seventh anniversary of the formation of the Alton Girl Guides Association was made the occasion of a celebration in the Alton hall on Tuesday. The divisional commissioner, Mrs. J. Houston, Hawera, was present, the Alton Company being in the charge of the captain, Miss Ivy Gibbs, arid the lieutenant,. Miss Gladys Robbins, while Miss Metcalfe was in charge of the brownies. The visitors were welcomed by the association’s president, Mrs. A. .J. Gibbs. The seven candles on the birthday cake were lit by Guide Miriam Amon, and Guides Marjorie and Edith Goile blew them out. Mrs. Houston before cutting the cake wished the troop good guiding for the coming year and hoped that troops would be formed in 'Kakaramea and Manutahi. Cheers were given for the president, the committee and Mrs. A. Illingworth. Brownie Melba Amon lit the candles on the brownies’ cake and Brownie Marjorie Davies, extinguished them, Mrs. Foreman, senr., cutting the cake and wishing, the brownies many happy returns. Members of the troop entertained with a short programme which included a pianoforte solo by Jean Hunt, folk dancing by Posy Nickel, Myrtle Robins, Jean Hunt and Phyllis Metcalfe. The brownies gave a chorus and Joyce Hill* gave a refutation.
