COURT AT OPUNAKE
JUDGMENTS ON DEBT CLAIMS. There was a brief sitting of the Opunake Court on Wednesday. Only one police case was heard. Several charges of failing to pay unemployment levies were adjourned till the next sitting of the court. Judgment by default was given by Mr. W. H. Woodward, S.M., on the following debt claim: R. E. Peat v. Frederick Ward, £l3 7s 6d (costs £1 3s). On a judgment summons H. tiardwidge was ordered to pay the Opunake Town Board £ll 11s and £1 Is costs, in default ten days’ imprisonment. D. W. Jones was ordered to pay Taranaki Chain Stores £ll 14s 3d and £1 Is costs, in default ten days’ imprisonment. Stray Stock on Roads. John Harte was fined 10s and costs £1 2s 6d for permitting three cows to be at large and without proper guidance on Main South Road, Pungarehu, on May 29. He pleaded guilty by letter. Mr. A. A. Bennett, for the Egmont County Council, stated that Harte had previously been warned, one warning going back as far as 1933. One of the animals was blind, this fact making the offence more dangerous.
