AUROA SPORTS EVENTS
HIGHLAND PIPE BAND MEETING. The annual meeting of the Auroa Highland Pipe /Band was held in the Auroa Hall on Tuesday evening when there was a fair attendance. Mr. A. N. Brown presided. Sympathy was expressed with the relatives of the late Mrs. W. Duff, Auroa, and to those of the late Mr. R. Law, Kaponga, who were both keen supporters of the band. The balance-sheet showed a small profit. The election of officers resulted: Patron, Mr. M. Langlands sen.; president, Mr. A, N. Brown; secretary, Mr. ’’J. R. Skinner; auditor, Mr. L. M. Fairbrother; vice-presidents, the same as before with the auditor Mr. R. Law jun. A vote of thanks was passed to Mr. Fairbrother for his services to the band. Two hockey matches were played at Auroa on Wednesday afternoon when the men’s team lost to Pihama I—21 —2 and the Auroa girls beat Otakeho by 5 to nil. The Auroa basketball team beat Awatuna girls at Auroa on Wednesday afternoon and won by 14 to 6. Personal. Mr. and Mrs. W. Welham and family are settled in their new home on Auroa Road. Mr. Doug. Clement, Glenn Road, is spending a short holiday in the Waikato. Miss P. Crompton, Auroa, is spending a holiday with Mrs. H. P. Gibson, Kapuni. On Saturday evening Mr. and Mrs. Erhler, Glenn Road, gave a jolly Swiss party to a number of their friends. The evening was spent in dancing, playing cards and singing. Mr. Arnold Engleberger and Mr. Meyer provided accordeon music for the dances. . Mr. Joe Chamberlain sang a Swiss song. The supper comprised cold meats and pickles. Miss Jean Hughes is spending an extended holiday at fauranga. Mr. and Mrs. Wilks are on a motor tour of the Waikato, Auckland, and Wellington districts.
