The death has occurred at Christchurch of Nurse Emily Sibylla* Maude, aged 73, founder of the district nuriing service, which she has controlled since 1896, states a Press Associatidn message. Mr. H. E. Blyde, Lepperton, North Taranaki provincial presid6nt of the Farmers’ Union, will motor to Wellington to-morrow to attend the annual Do-j minion conference of the union, which is to be held next week. Mr. W. J. McCulloch, fields superintendent of the Department of Agriculture, Palmerston North, and Mr. B. M. Doak, soil chemist, Wellington, who Save been spending a few days in Taranaki, left yesterday on their return.
Mr. P. G. Pearce has been appointed Commissioner of Stamp Duties and Secretary for Lands and Deeds in succession to Mr. J. Murray, who is retiring on superannuation at the end of the month, states a Press Association message from Wellington. The death- has Occurred of Mr. J. B. Shacklock, aged 70, a former Mayor of Dunedin, states a Press Association message. He was actively engaged in the engineering industry since 1878 and was senior partner of H. E. Shacklock Ltd., Dunedin, Christchurch, Wellington and Auckland. He was a member of the Dunedin City Council for a long term and was Mayor of Dunedin in 1914 and 1915. For 18 years he was chairman of the electric power and lighting committee.
