SPEED OF RAYS
STARTLING CLAIMS ELECTRO-PHYSICS FIELD “INCREDIBLE ADVANCES” RELATIVITY SUPERSEDED INVENTOR’S DISCLOSURES By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. Rec. 8 p.m. New York, July 10. Nikola Tesla, the holder of 700 basic patents, celebrated his 79th birthday by revealing seemingly incredible adyaijpe? he is making in the field of electrophysics. Mir. Tesla said he had completed studies which “knocked the props” from under the relativity theory. He said he liad measured the velocities of the cosmic ray from tl ie Antares and found it was 50 times greater than the speed of light, whjch relativity proponents contend is the maximum speed in/the physical , universe. ‘
Mr. Tesla described twp electrical inventions. One is an appai'atus by which mechanical energy can be transmitted to any part of the terrestrial globe. He said it had many practical applications as providing a new and -unfailing means of communication and a safe means of guiding ships at sea.
The other invention he described as a new method and apparatus for producing direct current without a commutator, whereby aerophnes, aven Wiles and railways, could be operated by electric power from a disconnected station.
